COLUMBIA RIVER LOGGING

It was reported in January of 1902 that there were 133 logging camps on the Lower Columbia and tributaries. There were logging railroads at: Vancouver, Lake River, Ostrander, Castle Rock, Eufaula, Stella, Oakpoint, Waterford, Cathlamet, Deep River, Gray's River, Oneida, in WA and Svenson, Goble, and Rainier in OR. 26 locomotives of standard type, 12 of the geared type, total trackage about 90 miles, majority of roads 3-5 miles.

Activity was to increase.

October 9, 1903: There are 30 logging railroads averaging at least 4 miles in length, costing $5,000 a mile [lower Columbia]
